Oil Pump

SAFETY FIRST: Protective gloves and eyewear are recommended at this point.

Removal

 

Split the crankcases. See the Crankcase Splitting topic for more information.

 

 

Remove the three oil pump mounting bolts with a 5 mm Allen.

 

Remove the oil pump from the lower crankcase half.

 

Remove the O-rings from the oil pump and crankcase. Discard the O-rings.

 

Remove the dowel pins from the crankcase.

 

Rotate the oil pump shaft by hand. If the shaft does not turn smoothly the oil pump must be replaced. Individual components for the oil pump are not available.

 

Installation

 

Install the dowel pins into the lower crankcase half.

 

Install the new O-rings into the oil pump and crankcase.

 

Install the oil pump into the lower crankcase half.

 

 

Apply blue Loctite to the oil pump mounting bolt threads. Install the three oil pump mounting bolts and tighten them to specification with a 5 mm Allen.

 

(Oil Pump Mounting Bolt Torque: 10 N-m or 7 lb-ft)

 

 

Remove the three oil sump filter cover bolts with a 10 mm socket.

 

Clean the oil sump filter screen with a high flash-point solvent and compressed air. 

 

NOTE: Always wear safety glasses when using compressed air and never point it directly at yourself or anyone else.
